Simple City CD Rom

2Simple Software

This is the most popular software we have in our nursery. The children are always motivated to try out unexplored locations within the city, and to return to their favourites, the current one being the recycling centre!

There are 10 different locations; building site, café; doctor; farm; garage; garden centre; park; recycling area; vet; zoo. Each location features an expert talking about a particular job, and this is supported by a sequence of photographs. There is often another section featuring children using equipment relating to the location, and there are obvious links to role play here. All locations also have two games, with different complexities; the more complex of the two is a  game where children can create their own designs. In addition, there are some locations which feature oral questions or instructions for children to follow, eg, in the doctor’s location, there is an  instruction “Can you put a plaster on my shoulder?” where the child needs to click and drag a plaster and place on the appropriate part of the figure.

This is a great CD Rom! My nursery children love to create their own environments, print them out, and enjoy the onscreen animation of particular images. There is huge scope for using the package to develop children’s knowledge and skills in all six areas of the foundation stage. There are opportunities for categorising, using positional language, developing independence skills, listening to information and following simple instructions, and developing creativity on and away from, the computer.

There are teacher options to tailor the package to your children’s needs, and there is a large resource bank for ideas for follow up work.

I recommend this highly.
